加拿大小鎮設置北極熊監獄

加拿大「哈得遜灣」西岸以及北部城鎮「丘吉爾港」是北極熊遷徙必經之路，但由於當地「熊比人多」，小鎮居民擔心遭到北極熊攻擊，在當地設立了全球唯一一座「北極熊監獄」。

中新社報導，「丘吉爾港」居民只有800多人，每年10月到11月，在當地出沒的北極熊多達1千隻。當地居民表示，一天內曾有多達20隻北極熊到訪，牠們動作靈敏，為了覓食，北極熊大軍會在街上翻倒垃圾桶、闖入民宅，甚至襲擊人類。

為了防止北極熊傷人，當地政府將一處舊的飛機倉庫，改裝成一座「北極熊監獄」。設有28個囚室，目前已經有11名「北極熊囚犯」入住。

北極熊「囚犯」被監禁30天後，只要「行為良好」就可獲釋。由專業人員先在牠們的背上涂上顏料，以茲識別，再用直升機將牠送到偏遠地區放生，以免它們經常探訪小鎮。
