傳湖人為省錢 決定特赦世界和平

傳湖人為了減輕薪資和豪華稅壓力，將使用特赦世界和平（Metta World Peace）。

根據新款勞資協定，球隊只能特赦1名球員緩解薪資壓力，而該名球員必須從美國當地時間2011年7月1日到被特赦日起都在球隊陣容中（且期間沒有出現續約以及修改合約），此前，包括布萊恩（Kobe Bryant）、世界和平、加索（Pau Gasol）以及布雷克（Steve Blake）都在這一範疇。

哈沃德（Dwight Howard）宣佈加盟火箭，湖人不得不選擇留下加索，因為他們無法承受同時失去雙塔。但從各方面價值考慮，世界和平最終成為犧牲品。

世界和平發了幾條推特，「我要不要說呢？？我剛才接到了確認電話……」。

2009年夏天，世界和平離開火箭，與湖人簽下5年的合約，效力湖人的4個賽季裡，平均得分分別是11分、8.5分、7.7分和12.4分。即將年滿34歲的世界和平，6月下旬宣佈執行下賽季的合約選項，希望能繼續為湖人效力。

世界和平新賽季的合約價值772.7萬美元，根據聯盟的規定，湖人可以在7月11日至7月17日特赦世界和平。此外，湖人還可以稱世界和平為特赦球員，這樣，其他球隊可以競價。

根據新的勞資協定，湖人特赦世界和平，可以省下大概3000萬美元左右。
