衛生福利部國民健康署統計，平均每四百九十六名新生兒接受聽力篩檢，就發現一名聽損兒。目前仍有三萬多名符合資格的新生兒未接受公費篩檢。國健署呼籲，家長應踴躍帶新生兒篩檢，及早治療。

國健署婦幼及生育保健組組長陳麗娟說，新生兒聽力篩檢一年內共確診四百廿三名的聽損兒，並轉介至相關單位，進行後續療育。不過，仍有超過一成新生兒未接受聽力篩檢，約三萬多名。

研究顯示，輕、中、重度聽障的嬰兒如能在三個月大前診斷，並在六個月大前就配戴聽覺輔具、接受聽語療育，將來可達到接近正常的語言和身心發展，有機會兒進入主流教育，與正常兒童一同學習。

國健署表示，聽損兒接受及早治療，終身可以減少廿一萬元的社會經濟損失。

陳麗娟提醒，家中若有未滿三個月的新生兒，可到全國三百一十一家醫療院所篩檢。
