美國總統歐巴馬在倒數時刻發言表示，他希望可以避免政府關門。

歐巴馬表示，他期盼共和黨可以選擇正確的事情，並且決定在預算案上妥協，好讓政府繼續運作。

共和黨主導的眾議院目前持續向民主黨掌控的參議院施壓，要求修改歐巴馬提出的健保法案，換取維持政府運作的預算。

歐巴馬日前已表示，民主黨不會接受任何修改健保計畫的提案，並指稱他的健保法案已經開始向前，不能隨意停止。

美國眾議院上週日以 248 對 174 票，通過撤銷對醫療設備課稅，而這正是歐巴馬健保改革法案 Affordable Care Act 的資金來源之一；另外還以 231 對 192 票通過附加法條，讓歐巴馬健保法案的實施日期延後一年。

參議院民主黨領袖 Harry Reid 表明，不會接受健保改革法案有任何改變，以交換政府能有繼續運作的暫時資金。
