台大醫院小兒科副教授李秉穎說，由Ａ、Ｕ、Ｃ、Ｇ所組成的ＲＮＡ（核醣核酸）分子，每個字母表示一種鹼基，兩個鹼基形成一個鹼基對，鹼基對的配對規律是固定的，所有病毒、細菌和動物都如此，無法配對即基因突變。
